A little bit of poetry...
I’m standing in front of a mic,
Slightly older than me
They call it Vintage.
I beg to differ.
My view from the vocal booth:
Poly-cylindrical mahogany walls
Curve up to meet hyper high ceilings
On the old, pocked hardwood floor
A slew of picker’s instruments
A mountain of hand drums,
The stand-up slaps
The drums beat, skin on skin.
A busker band of young rebels,
Who’ve traded the street corner for the studio
Double percussionists
One, my partner and producer in crime,
The other, a wall of pure groove.
This space transports me to another time.
Great artists sang here before me.
I can feel their ghosts, their shadows, their harmonies.
It’s 2012, I am @ Studio Victor in St. Henri.
RCA Victor was started here in 1943
Long ago, before music streamed.
These walls gleamed.
A wax temple.
We’re printing four tunes.
Marrying our styles and harmonies.
Playing with what this record will be.
Then life got in the way
The work got put away
It needed to marinate
Before it could serenade.
“I got to it and it’s on its way”.
Re-imagined, re-mixed and re-mastered
Get to It.
What an adventure…
To all of us and our lingering projects
It’s time to “Get to it”!
